There are many cat breeds presented and one should do some inquiries on the actions of each kind before receiving any as a pet. Cats in general are not like dogs who want to satisfy the landlord. W hen the insect wants to play a ploy or something, it is because the animal finds it droll and will resume to do so while it is having fun.

The best way to edge teaching a cat is getting it associated with a certain sound. When the animal responds immediately to it, the motion could mean it time to eat or to go to the holder when the pet is being called.

The possessor should call out the name of the cat first then make the distinctive sound. Since this may take sometime to system, this should be done pretty regularly and reinforced with some kind of reward to make the animal know what will occur when hearing it.

One good way of teaching the cat is with recurring observation. This machinery well when guidance the cat to hone its claws on the scratching pad and not on the furniture. The vendor should gently accept up the animal, transport it to the scratching send then command the pet by the paws and recoil the action.

Since not all cats are toilet qualified, one will have to watch over the cat. When it time for the cat to go, the role should keep the cat to the litter box for the ‘deed’ to be done there.

Should the cat discard its weaken before feat the litter box or, when the holder rapidly finds some in the house, this should be selected up and located in the box. Afterwards, the cat should be placed in that box to make it get used with the smell, which will help the cat learn where to go should it happen again. When this happens, the cat should be happy with a little cure.

Cats, regardless of breed, can be qualified to do tricks. Though some do not stage the tricks in the specter of strangers or other people, it does not mean the animal has beyond the false. It just means it is not comfortable in the ghost of other people.

Cats can also be skilled to be responsible enough to go to the polite place whenever spirit calls.

For all this to happen, it just takes sometime and patience for the owner to school and reward the pet for its labors.

What breed is my cat(pictures)?

I don’t know what breed my cat is. He kind of looks like a Russian Blue to me.
He has brown patched of fur though. On his chest mostly.
Thanks!

@Eddie breed not species
And I think you mean ‘Feline’

Answer
Definitely not a Russian Blue. They have very LIGHT blue coats – more silvery – and very different features. THIS is what one looks like – http://www.tica.org/public/breeds/2010/rb_a.jpg

Your cat is simply a Blue domestic shorthair – a cat of no particular breed just like over 97% of the cats on this entire planet. Is this the same cat? http://www.flickr.com/photos/45484519@N08/4172273141/in/photostream/ If so not sure why you didn’t post this pic as it shows the cat much clearer than those other ones.

You may be planning on buying a chinchilla.

If not for you, then perhaps for a loved one or perhaps your kids. Before you introduce a new furry friend to your home however, it is of vital importance that you read up on chinchilla information and learn what there is to know about the animal.

The chinchilla can live to be about 15, give or take a few years. Some chinchillas simply live 12 years, while others live a longer life; up till the age of 20. It’s easily doable to have a tame chinchilla, so long as you provide them with the attention and nurturing they require when they’re young.

Note: In case that you’re thinking of getting a chinchilla for a child: Show the child the best way to properly take care of the chinchilla. Though it may look all warm and cute, the chinchilla knows how to bite when it feels threatened. If the child by mistake squeezes the rodent a little too hard, it might panic and bite. Sit down together with the kid and show him/her the way to hold and pet the chinchilla. If taken care of early on, you won’t have any bite marks from your chinchilla.

But what about the scent?

You’re in luck! Chinchillas don’t share the ‘unique’ odor that various other rodents have. Owning a chinchilla will not turn your house into a mini zoo when it comes to odors. Should you clean up your chinchilla’s cage once every seven days, you should have a virtually odor free area. In most cases, strong smells from your chinchilla may suggest that it’s got some sort of parasite (unless you haven’t cleaned it in a while, then its most likely just it’s cage)

What does it eat?

Mostly pellets designed for the animal. You could supplement the pellets with a bit of spinach or hay, but note that most of the chinchilla’s daily intake have to come from the pellets. That does not mean that the chinchilla is choosy in terms of food. It could actually dine on a leftover hamburger, some pizza, snacks as well as other salty food items, for that reason be sure you do not have left over food close to it’s cage any time you let it out to be able to play. (blank) Should the teeth grow too long, it could hinder it’s ability to eat, therefore buying something for it to chew on is really important. At the same time, keep a mineral or salt block in the cage for vitamins.

Can I train it?

Yes, you most certainly can. Just as with most other animals, the way to train a chinchilla is by means of food treats. You can lure it with a bit of piece of fruits. Place piece of fruit onto your shoulder/arm/hand and wait for the animal to leap onto you. Make sure to pet it thoroughly afterwards!

Buying a chinchilla

We’ll now look at a couple of things that you ought to keep in mind at the pet store/breeder if you want to get a chinchilla. The perfect time to purchase a chinchilla is when they are 10 weeks old, if you get them at an earlier age, they may not necessarily have had the sufficient contact necessary from it’s parents or siblings. If you can, ask to check out it’s mother and father before buying it. Check for spots of pelt missing, watery eyes and drooling (drooling generally indicates tooth issues). The right attributes to look around for in a new chinchilla tend to be: curiosity, healthy looking eyes and pelt, along with a good temperament.

I really hope I have helped clarify the most crucial elements for you.
Having chinchillas as pets is a wonderful thing.

The health of domestic cats is on the decline. Their life span is much below that of their wild cousins and the cats of your parents era. I frequently hear people implying their cat is old by the time they have reached eight or nine years of age.

Not that long ago, it was common for cats to reach 18 or 19 years of age, with a few rare exceptions reaching nearly 30.

You may have your own reasons why this might be happening, and I’m probably going to voice most of them here!

By virtue of the regularity of eating, I consider the most important reason why cats aren’t as healthy as they once were is the diet they are fed.

As people are coming into this awareness, there is a mad scramble by the commercial cat food industry to attract you with pretty words and smiling actors on the labels. The pretty words include icons such as ‘scientifically proven’ or ‘recommended by top vets’, although that is now less alluring than ‘natural’ or ‘all natural’. (I’m not sure what a ‘top vet’ is either. Could it be one who does the most advertising for the industry?)

However, ‘nature’, ‘natural’ and ‘all natural’ are slipping into second place as ‘organic’ becomes the favourite word of the day.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a strong contender for organic food, both for humans and for cats, but not all organic cat food really is organic.

For a start, the word ‘organic’ means nothing if it is not backed by a reputable certification. Everything that grows could be said to be organic. Many conventional producers have marked their produce as organic, when it had no certification.

Becoming a certified organic producer takes time – years. The soil is regularly checked. In that period, the producer can’t sell his produce as organic or use chemicals. It can be a tough time.

I have seen some dried organic cat food for sale. It was certified. But what’s the point in that? You’re feeding your cat organic cat food to avoid the chemicals that go into food production – the antibiotics in standard stock feed, the hormones given to stock to increase weight and production over a shorter period, the pesticides, herbicides, insecticides that are regularly used on the crops, the chemical fertilisers.

Stop and consider this. Can meat (in reality meat by-products as the good stuff goes for the higher priced human food) be kept indefinitely without the use of strong preservatives? How else can a packet of dried organic cat food have such a long shelf life?

Sure, the packet may not list preservatives in the list of ingredients. Why would they? You wouldn’t buy it.

The packet may even boast ‘no added preservative’. The wording needs to be clever to avoid litigation. ‘No added preservatives’ means they, the brand, didn’t add the preservatives. It doesn’t mean that preservatives weren’t added to the ‘meat’ before delivery.

So the million dollar question is, should you buy organic cat food? In my opinion, if it’s a commercial organic cat food, it is no better than non organic cat food.

All commercial cat food, whether organic or not, have one or more of the following preservatives in:

ethoxyquin (which causes diarrhoea, vision disorders, blindness, organ failure, cancers, leukaemia on just exposure to the human factory workers) formalin is used to preserve dead bodies sodium nitrite, which gives a nice rosy colour to food and can produce powerful carcinogenic substances known as nitrosamines propyl gallate – is now suspected of causing liver damage propylene glycol used to maintain the right texture and moisture content is used as coolant antifreeze in engines up to 1000 times more salt than occurs naturally

Most of these are not allowed in human food, due to their high levels of toxicity. Do you think that could be why cats are not living as long as they once were Would you?

Hedgehog treats???????

What are some good, healthy, nutritional treats I can feed it to help with the “bonding” stage of “quilling”, and just to help with the whole varied diet thing they are supposed to be on.My hedgehog is picky, so any treats they are almost guaranteed to like or at the least eat? Because all my hedgie is eating now, is his regular meal, ROYAL CANIN feline health nutrition kitten food, which supposedly isn’t that interesting.
Thanks for any information

There are many domestic cat breeds. Most people including cat lovers will not have heard of a number of them. They will almost certainly be unaware of this rarest of breeds.

There is little hard fact surrounding the history of the Sokoke Cat. The breed was named after the forest from where she originated on the coast of Kenya. The Sokoke Forest is the largest on the east of Africa and contains much interesting wildlife.

Close to the forest is the African Savanna, the home of another cat, this time a wild cat called the Serval.

The local people, the Giriama tribe, who live close to the Sokoke Forest have been aware of the Sokoke for a long time and they say this breed of cat has been living in the area for perhaps centuries.

They say that the Sokoke is neither a domestic cat nor a wild cat as the cat’s appearance is distinctly different. Living as they have with this cat for so long they are to be believed.

Although the Sokoke is the size of a domestic cat she is rangy and exotic looking having the appearance of a cross between the Serval and a Bengal.

It is feasible to argue that such as mating did in fact take place. But there is no hard evidence to substantiate that.

DNA testing of the cat shows no evidence of wild cat genes. The Sokoke is probably a feral domestic cat living in and around the villages of the Grimiama tribe who used the cat as a source of food at one time.

The tribal people called the cat ‘Khadzonzo’. This word means ‘look like tree bark’. This is because the coat color and pattern is reminiscent of tree bark being a modified marbled tabby pattern with ‘ticked’ blotches.

Although well known to the Kenyans of the area they were undiscovered until 1978 when a plantation owner and artist (and former horse breeder) Jeni Slater found them under a tree on her estate (in fact one of her servants or helpers found the mother cat and kittens).

Jeni’s background in breeding alerted her to the fact that the cat she saw was special, different and unusual and a possible new breed of cat.

She took two of the kittens and that in effect was the first step in the establishment of a new and rare breed of cat now registered with FiFe and TICA.

Shortly after the discovery two kittens were shipped to Denmark and breeding began.

In due course the breed was exported to the USA and Canada. There are now breeders in the USA, Norway, Canada and Denmark but they are few and far between in comparison to the more well known breeds.

You can read more about this rarest of cats at Pictures of Cats Blog and at Pictures of Cats

Does anyone know anything about cat breeds!?

Okay so I’ve had my cat for a year and people keep asking me his breed and I honestly don’t know
So can someone please tell me what breed he is. Heres some pictures:
I don’t know if this will show up or not so yea….

If it didn’t show up then go to this link

The pictures doesn’t show it, but his tummy is white and he has a carmel colored lining around it. His eyes start *from pupil* as blue, then goes to green, then yellow, then amber. His tail is like as long as he is. Charlie is a ticked kitty (from skin) with the colors of white, gray, and black. But some parts are brown. So yea…can someone tell me his breed!?

Answer
That is a garden variety tabby kitty.

Many hospitals, care houses and even jails are continually visited by a canine or feline therapy pet and its owner. Therapy visiting with a pet is a volunteer role that makes a significant difference to several people\’s lives. Animals break down barriers, relieve isolation or solitude and offer unconditional love.

These animals are highly social and steady natured. They love to be touched and enjoy regular attention from strangers. In turn they provide focus and stress easement for folk from all areas of life. Old folks that don't have the option to continue a lifelong relationship with dogs benefit greatly from a visiting canine.

As pet owner\’s we will understand the therapy benefits offered by a purring moggy or wagging tail of an interested dog. They greet us with zeal without exception. The dog sees no class, color or creed; he sees the kindness and delicate nature of the people around him. The dog is completely non-judgemental and makes a great friend.

Many research has proven that pet owners suffer less from stress related defects and also that regular petting of an animal mitigates stress.

A therapy pet that volunteers for a charitable organization that organizes volunteers and visits doesn't need express therapy dog training. He will need to pass a straightforward temperament test. Reaction to loud and astonishing noises will be considered. Greeting of strangers and handling all over the body. The charity involved will have to be certain that the dog can deal with any situation that will arise while visiting. Some associations will ask for a reference from the dog\’s veterinary surgeon.

The dog will have to be recent with vaccinations and bug treatments and healthy. Visiting can be exhausting for dogs and aged pets may not cope well with the relentless attention. For a very content, social and amicable dog therapy work will be a satisfying and nice experience.

If you are wondering what exactly a professional dog trainer can do for you and your dog, you will want to continue to read. Sometimes your dog can be a real pain in the you-know-where, which means a professional dog trainer might be just what you need. While dogs may be pleasant companions for the most part, they often have hideous tendencies that can\’t help but irritate you. Hiring a professional to train your dog may be the answer to your problems. And nobody can do it better than a trained pro. Dog trainers are in demand in and out of the country – the whole world for that matter. The dogs can\’t help it, to paraphrase Fergie, even if they may get on your nerves while at it.

With the help of a professional dog trainer, your pet could become well behaved in little time. These habits may really be disgusting, but if trained properly you and your dog can be back on good terms on a consistent day-to-day basis. When you hire a professional to do the job of training your pet, you should get professional service.

Once you have located your professional trainer, be honest with him and let him know all about the naughty acts that your dog performs. Keep your lines of communication open and honest so the trainer could work on each individual fault and make you and your pet happy campers.

There isn\’t much, really, to finding the right professional dog trainer. Do you take your dog to the local dog park? If so, try talking to some of the owners there that have dogs that behave. Ask them who their trainer was and get as much information as possible from them.

Not only can you feel more reassured about the fact that you\’ve got a problem dog, you may realize that breaking their habits is possible. And there may come a time when dog owners will be approaching YOU after they notice your pet so well-behaved just months after it was giving you headache after headache.

Choosing a professional dog trainer can sometimes be tricky. Try talking to all of the trainers you are interested in. Try \”road testing\” each trainer so you can see how your dog behaves around them. Make sure the dog trainer you hire is someone your dog will feel comfortable with, as it may spend the next few weeks or months in his/her care.

If I had had a dollar for each complaint I\’ve heard in my life about a horse doing something it shouldn\’t have, I might own the world\’s biggest stud farm by now. I have heard folk fuss about horses shying at butterflies and about horses refusing to board a trailer. Judged from the human viewpoint, naturally, these might be inexplicable actions on the part of the horse. The human point of view is that butterflies are not dangerous, as are horse trailers, so what\’s the horse\’s beef all about?

Well, horses don\’t have the same viewpoint on things that humans do, because they are an entirely different species. Their viewpoints and reactions are definitely at variance from those of the human being. Homo sapiens are predators in more than one sense of the word and that is why they have their eyes at the front. This implies humans have a rather more confined line of sight. Horses are prey animals and have eyes on the sides of the head. This implies they have got a broader range of vision, they have better lateral and rear vision. This is because of the fact that that kind of vision gives them better chances of spotting predators early and escaping.

The natural reaction for a horse that feels threatened by something is flight. Fight is the response when flight is not possible. A pony fights with its legs and teeth. It\’s a moot point that horses in today\’s world live in relatively safe environments. Their natural instincts have been deep-seated over centuries of wild life, and these instincts continue to lead their reactions.

The most surprising stimuli can trigger a horse\’s flight or fight instincts. Even in a ranch setting, a normal object that is out of place can set off a reaction. I\’ve had a lot of experience with this, like when horses shied at a careless set down water bucket when led around corners. The natural instinct dominated immediately till a more in-depth look told the pony it was looking at nothing more than a bucket!

I recall a point in time when I was practising with a lasso near my horse. I intended to inure him to the rope in motion. My instructor taught me a new trick concerning a counter-clockwise whirl of the rope rather than a clockwise one. My pony reacted badly, and I had to go thru the whole process of getting him desensitized again. His survival instincts were kicked off by nothing less than a change in the direction of swing of the rope.

For most pony owners, getting a horse to load on a trailer could be a maddening experience. To humans, a trailer is merely a convenient way of transportation. To a horse, the trailer is something dark and confined, and most likely full of threats. Since the horse\’s natural instinct is to run, he\’s not going to be comfortable when he is limited to a tiny space between 4 walls that give him no possibility of getting away.

It is thus essential that as a pony owner you take pains to work on your horse so that he accepts the trailer as harmless, however unwillingly he may do so. You have to work on getting him to shed his claustrophobia. Here is how you can try out your pony. If he is uncomfortable when close to a wall, when walking over a platform or when ducking under an overhead object, he\’s not likely to be ok with a trailer. You need to work on getting your horse ok with the wall, the platform and the overhead object first. You build his confidence up gradually and soon enough he will be getting into that trailer when you want him to.

You can\’t resolve a horse\’s issues unless you take the trouble of putting yourself in his place and looking at the world from his perspective. That\’s the only way his behaviour patterns will start to seem sensible to you. You are never going to get anywhere if you expect the pony to change his viewpoint from an equine to a human one.

Kitten health is particularly fragile during the early weeks of their lives. Many of the symptoms are subtle and easy to overlook, but their immune systems are delicate and a minor illness can easily grow into something much worse. In order to ensure that that does not happen and the health of your newborn kittens is protected, there are a number of symptoms that accompany various common kitten diseases that you will need to watch out for. This article outlines some of the most important.

Roundworms
It is very easy for newborn kittens to become infected with roundworms. Roundworms are spread by ingesting the eggs, which could be shed from another cat, passed on through the mother’s milk, or even in the litter box. Diarrhea is one of the primary symptoms of roundworms. Vomiting, and having a pot belly are also very common symptoms, as is a poor coat.

Fleas
Fleas are one of the most common ailments to cats of all ages. They can be difficult to diagnose because cats will eat them as they groom themselves. While normally not much more than an annoyance in older animals, they pose a particularly serious problem for young kittens because they have so little blood, and a severe flea infection can quickly cause anemia, or worse.

Fading Kitten Syndrome
Fading kitten syndrome is a generic term for a wide variety of ailments. These kittens simply do not get well on their own. The primary symptoms include: diarrhea, dehydration, and severe lethargy. Dehydration is particularly serious in kittens, and immediate medical attention is necessary.

Conjunctivitis
Conjunctivitis is another common disease that affects cats of all ages, and refers to an eye infection. If left untreated for a prolonged period of time, conjunctivitis can eventually lead to total blindness. An infected eye is difficult for the cat to keep open, and frequently weeps fluid. There is also usually a yellow or green discharge coming from the eye. This infection is particularly contagious, so you will want to isolate any kitten that develops one.

While these are some of the most common ailments that newborn kittens fall victim to, there are far more that were not covered. A good rule of thumb is that if the kitten won’t eat, develops diarrhea, has any type of fluid discharge or odd smell, or goes through any sudden change, it is best to take it to the vet immediately. This is especially vital during the first few weeks of life, when a kitten’s health is particularly fragile.

1 week old kitten very small and weak?

my cat has had 7 kittens, the other 6 have grown rapidly, but this one has grown only slightly and is so tiny.we keep havin to move the others and puttin the weak one on mums teat else the others barge her out of the way.also mother cat IS feeding them, but leaves them on frequent occasions which she hasnt done with past litters.can anyone give me some advice?also when the small kitten was born,i had to start it breathing and take it out of the birthsack aswell as getting it to suckle.if i keep making sure this kitten has time on the teat,is that enough to keep it alive?none of the other kittens pick on her or anything,i am just worried for her survival, growth and development
the other cats are definatly getting the milk they need form their mum, even though she leaves them. it is just this one that doesnt seam to be getting on so well
and i do not want anyone telling me to have my cat done, yes she will be done, but for now my only concern is for the health of this kitten

Answer
Poor little girl. Its sometimes tough being the runt. You may need to supplement her diet with some kitten replacement formula. It comes premixed, or you can buy the powder, which is a better deal, and mix it yourself. You can pick this up at any pet store. Hold the kitten gently and use an eyedropper to drop a little of the formula into her mouth. You may need to gently open her mouth a little at first, but eventually the kitten should start almost suckling it as she would her mother. Feed her like this until she is full. You will probably need to burp her as you would a human baby by picking her up and gently rubbing her back. The mother should still groom her to stimulate bowel movements, so don’t worry about this too much. If she’s not and is completely ignoring the kitten, just get a warm wet washcloth and gently rub the kitten’s bum.

Good luck and I hope she will be ok!

A horse is amongst the most honest pets for many folks. Exactly why? This is maybe given that they are actually loyal to man and seem to have emotions just like people. Still, having them as being a pet is not really a fairly easy thing to do. They\’re not exactly like puppies that we could conveniently hold and cuddle. They are generally quite difficult to tidy up because they are obviously big.

Looking after a horse is simply taking note on their own hygiene. This is usually a routine requirement for them other than foods. Their appropriate self care may affect their own emotions and just how they interact with their pet owners. They\’re like people. They have their own emotions and they ought to feel the love and comfort coming from their pet owners. Simply by treating their essential needs by means of horse care products, no doubt they\’re going to be grateful that they\’ve an owner just like you.

The marketplace is certainly wide open at all times getting you to buy products to treat your horse\’s necessities. There is absolutely no such thing as shortage of supplies since not all have horses as their pets and not all are being attentive on their pet\’s demands.

There are tons of horse care products out there and this is your responsibility to figure out what things to buy. You should be really receptive in regards to purchasing supplies to your horse. Your preferences may be the desires of your pet too. Which means, in the event the conditions are cold, you need to consider that your pet may need a blanket to somehow warm him up primarily throughout the night considering the fact that he only stays outdoors.

The blanket we have been talking about is called the horse sheet. This particular material is built to shield the horse from insects and flies apart from the cold weather. For the horse to be very comfortable, the sheet has to fit in thoroughly and should be made up of excellent stuff. A heavy fabric is just not perfect for your horse because it will still only supply him with tension and you wouldn\’t like that.

Furthermore, you can even buy footwear to guard your pet\’s hip and legs particularly when you sit on his back. If ever you currently have an entire list of horse clothing, the next action you must target is around the servicing items. Precisely what are these? Included in this are shampoos, tooth paste and also tooth brush, hair brush, insect sprays and trimmers. These are the basic horse care products that you must never forget putting in your barn. In the event you effectively care for your horse, for certain you will end up the one to benefit. Exactly why? If your horse is well-groomed, you\’ll be quite excited to ride on his back and have fun with the entire day together with him. A cozy trip will probably be both an enjoyable and memorable moment for you along with your dearest pet. They\’re might be just animals however if you display passion for them, they will make an effort to send it back to you.

As a generalization, to deliver the maximum treatment your horse\’s necessities better utilize horse care products that have high quality. In addition, if you value back riding, remember to wear safety gears like boots, knee pads, elbow pads and so forth. This will make you overall protected. Have a very risk-free and fulfilling ride!
